Trails
If
you live in Central Arkansas, then you know how lucky we are to
have some great road and mountain biking trails close to home.
Whether you enjoy long road rides or rough and tumble mountain
biking, Central Arkansas has a trail or ride to fit the bill.
With the different parks and trails available to us, we can
simply ride to most of our biking destinations right from our
front door.
Probably the most talked about and most ridden trail in Central
Arkansas is the River Trail along the banks of the Arkansas
River. This trail plays host not only to cyclists, but to
joggers and roller bladers as well. Starting on the South side
of Murray Lock and Dam, this trail travels along a scenic golf
course in Little Rock, crosses through the downtown area using
signs to direct travelers and goes through North Little Rock's
River Front Park before ending on the North side of Murray Lock
and Dam. A soon to be completed pedestrian and cycling bridge
will help complete the circle. BACA is working hard in
cooperation with local government to make this bridge a reality.
The top mountain bike trail system has to be Camp Robinson in
North Little Rock. With over 30 miles of trails, there is
something for everyone. Whether you want to challenge yourself
on Advanced Trig or just take it easy on Dogwood, you can find
what you need. All of this riding comes at a very reasonable
price, just $10 a year. This "fee" gives you access to these
wonderful trails and helps support a wonderful cycling group,
Central Arkansas Recreational
Pedalers (CARP).
There are many more trails besides just the two mentioned. Keep
coming back to this website to learn more about the trails
Central Arkansas has to offer.
CHANGES TO RIVER
TRAIL
If you've been on
the River Trail lately, you probably noticed some changes. On
both the Little Rock and North Little Rock sides there are signs
posted with "Rules of the Trail." Next time you're on the trail,
take a moment to read the sign. BACA members suggested a number
of the rules.
In addition, the kiosks donated by BACA members Gene and Linda
Pfeifer now have the trail rules along with information about
the trails posted on them.
As you're riding on the North Little Rock side on the road from
the railroad tracks to the area by the bluffs, you will notice
some "Share the Road" signs thanks to North Little Rock
Alderperson and BACA member Charlie Hight. These are the type of
signs we hope to have placed around Pulaski County. Check the
Share the Road link for additional information about the Share
the Road campaign.
